Blake Bortles is becoming a late-game stud
By Luke Sims
Blake Bortles managed to complete a touchdown pass to Julius Thomas after struggling to get it to him all night.
That score was all he needed to put the Tennessee Titans down as the Jacksonville Jaguars won the game 19-13.
While the spark came mostly off a 63-yard punt return by rookie Rashad Greene and a forced fumble by cornerback Davon House, Blake Bortles will be credited with yet another game-winning drive in his young career.
So far this season, no quarterback has as many winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime than Blake Bortles.
While few game winning are as easy as a five-yard dump off to your mountain of a tight end, it’s still nice to see Bortles show some late game poise.
There’s no doubt in my mind that Blake Bortles is doing everything he can to be the best quarterback he can be for the Jacksonville Jaguars. There are still problems with his game and with another interception and lost fumble, we shouldn’t all get lost in his game winning pass.
Still, he has begun to get it done when it counts for the 4-6 Jaguars and he should be recognized for the work he has put in.
He finished the night 21 of 30 for 242 yards with one touchdown and one interception.
It isn’t always pretty, but he got another win on Thursday night.
Next: Rashad Greene's return was good, but would it be among the best moments ever?
Before tonight, the Jaguars had won three games by a tiny margin of just eight points. Tonight they won by six.
While the Jags cause heart attacks in the fourth quarter, it’s clear that this team can compete in the NFL and become something better. Who knows, they may have finally turned a corner.
