Marcus Mariota just made believers out of a lot of skeptics. His monster NFL debut saw him post a perfect quarterback rating of 158.3 while tossing four touchdowns.

Is that enough to make him our top ranked quarterback in the AFC South?

With Andrew Luck the top dog in the AFC South for the last few seasons, it will be tough to unseat him with just one strong performance. That said, Luck looked particularly mortal during the season opener so it’s certainly possible.

We will rank the five quarterbacks who took significant snaps for the Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, and Indianapolis Colts in Week 1.

Let’s dive in.

5) Brian Hoyer, quarterback, Houston Texans

Posting a pedestrian 72.7 quarterback rating in the NFL isn’t going to cut it. Hoyer managed to complete just 52.9% of his 34 passing attempts against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1. He gained 236 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

While this is not completely terrible at the NFL level, the Houston Texans are looking for a quarterback who can either be an effective game manager or lift the team up. This is a playoff-caliber team from the top to the bottom and the only real question remains at quarterback.

Hoyer may have shown he isn’t the answer on Sunday.
