3) Allen Robinson, wide receiver, Jacksonville Jaguars
Allen Robinson is going to be the no. 1 receiver for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2015 and he’s expected to step up and be something special. It’s a wide-held belief that Robinson will breakout this season and he could finally be that 1000 yard receiver the Jags have been looking for.
Robinson displayed a maturity in his rookie season that rivaled the play of veteran wide receivers and that of rookie sensation Odell Beckham Jr. Big things are expected of Robinson and, in my opinion, he didn’t live up to them last week.
Robinson has just five catches off nine targets with two drops so far this preseason. That isn’t the level of production I would like to see from a quarterback’s favorite target. The coaching staff expects better of Robinson and they will expect him to step up in the third preseason game.
Keep an eye on Robinson through the game against the Lions to see if he is able to get back to form. This third preseason game is the time to prove that he is still the Allen Robinson we came to rely on in his rookie season or if he’s going to progress less than we anticipated.
Obviously it is still a preseason game, so take everything with a grain of salt, but it should provide a good measurement for the second-year receiver all the same. With Marqise Lee sidelined again, Robinson will be paired with Allen Hurns and the two of them will be expected to carry the passing attack as the presumptive starters. Tight end Julius Thomas will also not be available for the game, taking away another strong receiving option.
Robinson will have to step up for the Jaguars. I want to see him play as near-perfect as possible on Friday.
