2) Ameer Abdullah, running back, Detroit Lions
Ameer Abdullah will be the primary player to watch on the Detroit Lions offense. So far this preseason, Abdullah has been electric. The Nebraska product had nearly 10 yards per carry (67 yards on seven carries) in his first preseason game and has a 45 yard run to his credit already.
Jacksonville Jaguars and Lions fans will have the benefit of seeing the third and fourth running backs taken in the 2015 NFL Draft in a rookie showdown. Abdullah has done enough to warrant further touches in the preseason and regular season over his fellow running backs. I expect we’ll see a great comparison between him and T.J. Yeldon throughout the game.
Abdullah has really impressed me so far and I think he’ll be fun to watch regardless of who you root for. There’s something about him that keeps you interested, knowing that he could break anything for a big gain.
I hope we see Yeldon and Abdullah both impress in their rookie seasons. It’ll be nice to see them head to head in a preseason game that could be more indicative of actual use and production than past preseason performances.
