Jacksonville Jaguars 2015 NFL Draft: Looking for A Pass Rush
By Daniel Lago
The Jacksonville Jaguars are tied for the worst record in the NFL, but as luck would have it they are still only slated for the third overall pick thanks to strength of schedule. This likely puts them out of the range to trade down via one of the top quarterbacks or to take the top pass rusher… or does it?
Erik Lambert over at NFL Mocks is a sick man, and he’s already putting together 2015 NFL mock drafts despite the season still having 3 more games. In his latest mock (with trades), he has the Jaguars swinging a deal to move down and collect picks.
"#3 – New York Giants (f/JAX) – Leonard Williams – DT – USCTrade: #7 pick, 2nd in ’15 and 3rd in ’16 for Jaguars #3 pickRe-signing Jason Pierre-Paul is looking like a great possibility now, which means the New York Giants have to get him some help in the draft. Trading up to get Leonard Williams would qualify as an early coup for a team short on pass rush.#7 – Jacksonville Jaguars (f/NYG) – Shawn Oakman – DE – BaylorGus Bradley has his quarterback. Now he should be free to feed his baby, which is the Jacksonville Jaguars defense. Shawn Oakman is a physical freak of nature with tons of upside as a defensive lineman. What he needs is more consistency."
In this scenario, the Jaguars miss out on the top pass rusher in Randy Gregory, so Lambert has them moving down and taking Shawn Oakman out of Baylor. I don’t really know much about Oakman other than his crazy athleticism, but I wouldn’t mind picking up an extra second round pick. It’s tough passing on a guy like Leonard Williams, so the Jaguars will have to decide if he’s the kind of talent who is worth more than just a couple of extra picks. Either way, this is almost certainly not going to happen, but it’s still fun to think about.
