Justin Blackmon Hopefully Looks Forward to Reinstatement
By Luke Sims
Justin Blackmon pleaded no contest on Thursday to a misdemeanor count of marijuana possession in Oklahoma.
Is this a sign that the troubled Jacksonville Jaguars receiver is on his way to accepting his mistakes and moving forward? Or is this a sign that Justin Blackmon simply still doesn’t understand that sorting out his personal life is the only way he can move forward with his NFL career?
Per NewsOK, Blackmon was stopped with three grams of marijuana in his car.
The good news for Blackmon is that if he doesn’t do anything bad over the next six months, the charge will be dropped down to misdemeanor disorderly conduct, which is about the best that the receiver can hope for.
Justin Blackmon has struggled off the field since before being drafted fifth overall in 2012, but his attorney, Robert Gray, thinks he will turn it around:
"“I don’t anticipate (Blackmon) will have any problems,” Gray said. “He’s going back to training and hopefully looks forward to reinstatement.”"
The good news for Jaguars fans still holding out for Blackmon to return is that the receiver is going back to training. Even better, he’s looking forward to reinstatement.
It will be important for Blackmon to continue to avoid legal trouble if he hopes to ever play another down in the NFL. He’s been suspended indefinitely and has not had many positive stories coming out of his camp over the past year. His great talent is being wasted due to his off-field troubles, but if he can manage to stay clean and is back to training, focused on coming back then it is possible that Blackmon may finally be on the right track and the Jaguars could have the most talented receiver back on their roster (at some point) since Jimmy Smith.
We here at B&T wish the best for Blackmon and hope he can move past his legal and personal troubles to be reinstated by the league. Currently, there is no word that his indefinite suspension will be reassessed.
