The Jacksonville Jaguars shake off the cobwebs from their bye week on Sunday as they travel to Indianapolis and face a fledgling Colts squad. After losing in embarrassing fashion (42-20 on Sunday night) to the New England Patriots, the Colts were dealt injury to insult as they lost starting running back
Ahmad Bradshawfor the season to an ankle injury. The Colts now turn to
Trent Richardsonto carry the load in the backfield, and that’s not exactly a proposition that should scare the Jaguars.
I’ll be the first to admit, my game predictions have not been the best this season. I’ve been… let’s say optimistic heading into most of the games this season, and the Jaguars have let me down more often than not. Am I dumb enough to pick the Jaguars again? Keep on reading, or just scroll all the way to the bottom if you’re a cheater.
With all that in mind, here are my rock solid predictions for this week’s game:
Denard Robinson will run for over 100 yards: FACT
Denard Robinson has been the shining light on this Jaguars’ offense over the last 5 weeks, and he should be salivating heading into this game against the Colts. A complete unknown before the game, Patriots’ running back Jonas Gray racked up a whopping 201 yards on 37 carries against a willing Colts’ defense, good enough for 5.4 yards per rush. Gray did most of his work between the tackles and near the redzone – his longest run was only 20 yards. The Colts were actually lucky Gray doesn’t have breakaway speed, otherwise he might have rushed for 300 yards against them.
Unfortunately for the Colts, Denard Robinson does have gamebreaking speed and he should have a chance to put it on display with some help from rookie guard Brandon Linder and tight end Marcedes Lewis both coming back from injury.
Andrew luck will throw for 300+ yards: FACT
Andrew Luck is really, REALLY good. In his 10 games so far this season, Luck has thrown for more than 300 yards a mind-boggling 9 times. He has an 8-game streak going, and there’s little reason to think he won’t extend it against the Jaguars. With Trent Richardson now the primary ball carrier, the Colts don’t really have an incentive to take the ball out of Luck’s hands. He should surpass 40 attempts or so in this game, and that should be more than enough for him to rack up 300 yards against a Jaguars secondary that has been riddled with injuries.
Blake Bortles will throw an interception: FICTION
Easily my least logical prediction of the week, but it has to happen eventually, right? Bortles has managed to incrementally reduce the number of dangerous throws he makes every week, and his attempts should be a little more limited this week considering the success the Jaguars should have running the ball. The real key though to helping Blake out is to not fall behind early. If he’s facing a big deficit late in the game, Bortles will be taking chances down the field.
Alright, enough is enough Jaguars – when I pick you to win, you better damn well win. This is a Colts team that is reeling after getting manhandled by the Patriots, and they have zero viable options for running the ball. The Jaguars have every reason to put up a good fight… but they’ll still probably lose.
PREDICTION: Colts 27 – Jaguars 23
