What’s Next? Jaguars Play Spoiler to Colts
By Luke Sims
The Jacksonville Jaguars have a chance to open the AFC South division up when they take on the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.
The Colts are currently a game ahead of the Houston Texans in the division and if the Jaguars can beat them then the road to the division title could very well be Houston’s. The Texans have three easily winnable games on their horizon and if they can tack on one or two more, it could be home free…if the Jags beat the Colts that is.
The Jaguars are in prime position to play spoiler on Sunday. Then again, they could play spoiler to the Texans in weeks 14 and 17 as well. With three division games out of six to finish the season, the Jaguars could very well be in control of who takes the division title.
That is, if they can field a competitive game.
To effectively be a spoiler, the Jaguars will have to put it all together on Sunday, limit their mistakes, and bring the high-powered offense of week three back at the Colts. A lot of that offense was from what was effectively garbage time in the second half, but Blake Bortles rejuvenated the entire franchise in that second half and it would be fitting to have his success replicated in this coming game. The Jags ultimately lost 44-17.
So, will the Jaguars embrace their role as spoiler and try and win just to fiddle with the division?
Obviously that isn’t the driving force that you want the team to have, but it could very well be the most satisfying thing to see as a Jaguars fan. There’s nothing better than sticking it to division rivals and if the wins help to show that the 1-9 Jags have made progress, all the better.
I say bring on the role of spoiler!
