More from Jacksonville Jaguars News

Heading into their bye week after a brutal loss in London, the Jacksonville Jaguars are a little more than halfway through the 2014 NFL regular season. The bye week also means it’s time to step back and briefly evaluate how some of the players have performed so far. The second year into a massive rebuild, the most interesting players to look at of course are the young guys who should eventually be the foundation for this team.

Over the course of the week, we’ll be taking a look at all of the rookies playing roles for the Jaguars right now. We’ll start with the undrafted guys and work our way down all the way to the first round pick.

Let’s take a look the first half of a pair of wide receivers selected in the second round – wide receiver Marqise Lee.

Once regarded as the top receiver in the country, Marqise Lee saw his draft stock fall precipitously in his junior year. After a huge sophomore season that had some talking about a possible top 10 selection, Lee limped his way through injuries and terrible QB play at USC before falling to the Jaguars in the second round of the 2014 NFL draft. If the Jaguars got the Marqise Lee who took college football by storm as a sophomore, then they probably got a steal.

Here’s how Lee has fared so far statistically in 2014:

The emergence of Allen Hurns made the wide receiving corps very crowded in the preseason, and Lee has been the odd man out for most of the year. After a decent workload in week 1, Lee has seen his targets drop dramatically, and he has yet to find a groove as a deep threat in this offense.

With the loss of Allen Robinson for the year, the Jaguars need someone to step up and absorb some of the looks he was getting. It’s not clear what has been holding Lee back from getting involved in the offense, but he needs to figure it out soon if the Jaguars want to find some explosiveness on offense.
