Plus Guys

Ryan Davis: +2.1 Overall, +0.8 Run Defense, +1.2 Pass Rush

Sherrod Martin: +1.2 Overall, +1.1 Pass Coverage

Jeremiah George: +1.1 Overall, +1.1 Run Defense

With Andre Branch out of the lineup, the Jaguars were expected to see a drop in production as far as rushing the passer. Ryan Davis has stepped up in his absence, mostly due to an increase in playing time. Davis only played 21 snaps, which is still not nearly enough, and he managed to get 1 sack and 1 QB hit in those few plays. He is the Jaguars best pass rusher and needs to be on the field more often.

The Jaguars have been riddled with injuries in the secondary, so it was nice to see a new guy like Sherrod Martin step in and play well. He had the play of the day on defense with his interception on Andy Dalton, which came at a crucial time in the game.

Jeremiah George only played 11 snaps before getting injured, and he seemed to be holding up well in run support during that time.

Minus Guys

Chris Clemons: 3.2 Overall, -1.9 Run Defense, -1.5 Pass Rush

Josh Evans: -3.1 Overall, -1.7 Run Defense, -1.5 Pass Coverage

Johnathan Cyprien: -2.0 Overall, -2.6 Run Defense, +0.5 Pass Coverage

Chris Clemons continues to be a disappointment after only one good half of play in week 1 against the Eagles. Despite playing 50 snaps, Clemons was only credited with 1 QB hurry. He also got pushed around in the running game. Right now he’s just a complete non-factor on defense.

The secondary has been in tumult for most of the season, but the Jaguars finally settled on a starting duo at safety. Unfortunately both Josh Evans and Johnathan Cyprien had rough days on Sunday. Both guys were given low run defense grades, most of which probably came on the 60 yard touchdown by Jeremy Hill. In pass coverage, the Bengals have a formidable set of pass catchers, and the safeties did a decent job of preventing big passing plays.
