Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Tennessee Titans: Keep Your Enemies Close – 5 Questions with Titan Sized
By Daniel Lago
The Jacksonville Jaguars are winless so far in the 2014 regular season, but they’re hoping to change that as they travel to Tennessee and take on the 1-4 Titans. To get some information on the Titans, we pinged our friends over at Titan Sized to see if they’ve recovered from their demoralizing loss to the Cleveland Browns. Here’s what editor Dave Bevan had to say.
1. It appears the Jake Locker era may be coming to an end at Tennessee. What should the Jaguars expect if Zach Mettenberger starts on Sunday?
"You have a better shot of seeing Charlie Whitehurst on Sunday than Mettenberger. Coach Whisenhunt hasn’t given up on the season yet to just throw in Mettenberger. Whitehurst is a clipboard professional and he may shock you at what he is capable of producing. We witnessed it against Cleveland. Whitehurst will have to blow three quarters for you to see Mettenberger. And, our track record shows that possibility is not unlikely. Mettenberger did impress a little with his small appearance against Cleveland."
2. Some people questioned the switch to a new front on defense with Jurrell Casey playing so well in the previous scheme. How has he looked so far in 2014?
"We definitely expected more, but I don’t blame the lackluster performances of this defense on one player. So far this season Casey has pulled in 11 tackles through 5 games. That isn’t impressive at all. But, what is really important to note is how this defensive front is lacking in sacks. Casey has two on the season."
"It will be interesting to see how this horrendous defense will matchup against an offensive line that has allowed a league-high 21 sacks this season. I believe Bortles has been sacked 5 times through 10 quarters."
3. Which Titans rookie should the Jaguars keep an eye on?
"Of course I have to go with RB Bishop Sankey. With Shonn Greene out, I am seeing Sankey making his first NFL start Sunday against the Jaguars. Sankey has rushed 150 yards on 32 attempts, and 1 rushing TD as a backup to Greene thus far in the season. He will definitely be a player to watch on the Titans’ offense."
4. Which Titans player on offense and which player on defense should the Jaguars be most worried about?
"Delanie Walker or Justin Hunter on offense. They are two receivers you don’t want to allow mismatches against. If they get open, expect some damage."
"Watch for George Wilson in the Titans’ secondary. He is known to make some noise."
5. What’s your prediction for the game?
"Last weekend’s outcome leads me not to be surprised with this Titans team. If they can blow a huge lead against the Browns, it can happen against the Jaguars."
"I could see the Titans blowing another lead this weekend. The recent lack of depth due to injuries makes this team less reliable. Jacksonville wins, 24-21, and the Titans will be dubbed the worst team in the NFL."
