Jaguars Give Henne and Bortles Some New Toys Friday night. The Jaguars entered the second day of the draft needing to support potential new QB Blake Bortles. The uncertainty of Justin Blackmon‘s return from NFL suspension made wide receiver a priority in the Jaguars draft plans.
The Jaguars had the 39th pick and used it to select USC wide receiver Marqise Lee. According to NFLDraftScout.com, Lee was the fifth ranked WR on the board and the 25th ranked player overall, which means the Jaguars got a great value pick at a position of need. Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com graded the pick as a B+ and had this too say.
"“This is a good pick. He had first-round talent. Why he dropped is a mystery. He will be their No. 1 in a year or so. Blake Bortles has to be happy.“"
Jaguar general manager Dave Caldwell then used some of our surplus picks to trade back up to the second round. The Jaguars traded pick number 150 to move up nine spots to number 61 and select Penn State WR Allen Robinson. At 6-3 and 220 pounds, Robinson brings something the Jaguars need, which is a big, physical wideout to contend with all these large cornerbacks that are now the norm. According to NFLDraftScout.com, Robinson was the sixth ranked WR and the 34th player overall. Prisco graded this pick as a B and had this comment.

“I like this pick again by the Jaguars. This is a big receiver to go with Lee. Nice job.”
The Jaguars drafted two players ranked in the top 34 overall at the 39 & 61 picks. That is outstanding and gives Chad Henne & Blake Bortles two prime targets to team up with Cecil Shorts III. Things are lloking up for the Jaguars.
Looking forward to the workouts…Michael McDonald.
