Jacksonville Jaguars 2014 NFL Draft: Meeting with Manziel, Bridgewater, Mettenberger, and Others

With the combine and pro days in our rear view mirror, it’s time for the important part of the draft process to begin. While media outlets enjoy the viewership that comes with coverage of those events, teams are learning a lot more about the draft prospects via personal interviews and private workouts. The Jaguars are doing just that his week, as they are hosting a handful of the top guys.

Holding the third overall pick, it makes sense that general manager David Caldwell is doing his due diligence and taking the time to talk to all the top quarterbacks. It’s the Jaguars’ most prominent position of need, and there is a high probability of them selecting one in the first round.

I’ve been pretty consistent on my quarterback rankings – Bridgewater is at the top – but right now it’s anyone’s guess as to which one will be selected first. No one seems to have a good grasp on how NFL teams rate all of them.

NESN.com did a composite ranking of the players using multiple draftniks and the results are pretty varied. Bridgewater is anywhere from 1 to 13, and Manziel is rated between 7 and 29. For all we know, Caldwell could have them somewhere else on his big board.

Regardless, these meetings do mean something. Caldwell and head coach Gus Bradley have been pretty forthright since taking their positions in Jacksonville. Hosting these prospects means a genuine interest in taking them.
