Playing David Caldwell – Fixing the Offense

Running Back
Here is where we stand with our current guys:
Maurice Jones-Drew – free agent in 2014 – making $6,800,000 in 2013
Justin Forsett – signed for 2014 – making $1,000,000 in 2014
Jordan Todman – Restricted free agent in 2014- making $ 550,000 in 2013
Denard Robinson – signed in 2014 – making $ 548,000 in 2014
The question is what about Maurice? I’d like to have him on the team and keep him for another three years. He is a great all-around player. As Shad Kahn said “It takes two to tango” so will he want to come back? We will have to wait and see. As far as salary and ability, I would keep the other three. There is no risk on any of them.
If Maurice leaves, a veteran running back is usually not hard to find. Donald Brown from Indianapolis isn’t great but he is 26 years old making $ 2,700,000 now. He could work out. Ben Tate from Houston is 25 years old making $ 900,000, maybe Ben? None of these two strike me like having MJD. Another interesting name is Joique Bell from Detroit. He is a restricted free agent but was undrafted, so Detroit would have to match the offer. He is a good pass catching option out of the backfield. I’d like to target Joique Bell this off season.
In the draft, I’d love to grab James Wilder Jr. from FSU. I think he would make the fans forget MJD. We won’t get him, but what a threat he is, what a joy to watch run. Another guy I love is Lache Seastrunk from Baylor.
