Jacksonville Jaguars Preseason Week 2: First Day of Practice
By Daniel Lago
The Jacksonville Jaguars returned to the practice field on Monday after a rough first game against the Miami Dolphins on Friday. Luckily they were met with some good news.
Second round pick Jonathan Cyprien and last year’s first round pick Justin Blackmon were both available to practice today and both immediately improved their respective units. Cyprien was particularly impressive during mini-camp and could potentially be one of the best players on defense right away.
Cecil Shorts did not dress in full pads as a precaution due to his calf injury last week. Shorts probably won’t be back until he’s 100% because his starting position is in no way being threatened. Luke Joeckel also spent the day on a bike and withheld from practice.
Blackmon and Cyprien got thrown into 11-on-11 drills with full pads right away.
Cyprien rotated in and out with Chris Prosinski likely to ease him back into a regular rotation.
Once again the quarterbacks were inconsistent at best in what Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union called the “worst day of practice for [the] offense by far.”
The highlight of the day came when Paul Hazel absolutely embarrassed Mark Asper off the snap in drills for the second time this camp.
