Training Camp – Preseason Week 1 Begins

The Jacksonville Jaguars began their week of training camp and preparation for their first preseason game by trimming the roster. Wide Receiver Taylor Price and offensive lineman Stephane Milhim were released, bringing the roster down to 88 players.

As the Jaguars prepare to face the Dolphins on Friday night for their first preseason game, several questions remain about the roster at key positions. After the first week of training camp, it’s generally difficult to get a feel for how practices are going since they are closed to the public. Fortunately, the team is continuing their theme of transparency with their fans by allowing reporters to tweet practices as they’re happening.

Rookie safety Jonathan Cyprien remained  in shorts and wide receiver Justin Blackmon started the week on the PUP. Both players will certainly be held out of the first game on Friday with the hope of getting them back into pads next week.

In addition to Cyprien and Blackmon, running back Justin Forsett also was held out after hurting his toe last week. Defensive end Jeremy Mincey was also held out with what was later revealed to be a mild concussion.

Gabbert also got back into the swing of things after being held out of some activities last week. Despite his so-so performance in the scrimmage, it seems Gabbert will get first dibs on reps with the ones going up to Friday.

Snippets from the media did make it sound like Gabbert and Henne had one of their better days so far in practice.

Denard Robinson continues to impress when he gets to run the wildcat, even if it means having Chad Henne line up at receiver…

It wasn’t all about the offense as some of the new faces on the Jacksonville defense made some plays throughout practice.

Unfortunately it seems we won’t see stud wide receiver Cecil Shorts III this Friday after suffering a calf strain in practice today.
