Training Camp 2013 – Day 2
By Daniel Lago
Two days of training camp for the Jacksonville Jaguars are in the books and the main storyline over the two days has been the play of the quarterbacks. With all of the quarterbacks learning a new system, growing pains are expected. That’s exactly how the second day of camp seemed to go for Blaine Gabbert, but Chad Henne ended up with less mistakes over the course of the day.
This sequence is classic Gabbert. A nice play surrounded by a myriad of ineptitude and unnecessary mistakes. Gabbert is going to have a short leash this year and his only hope of keeping the starting job (if he gets it) through the end of the season is to gain some semblance of consistency.
Henne hasn’t been amazing but he’s performed better in camp than he did last year. It’s still early and I expect at some point for Blaine to pull ahead of Chad.
It does look like head Coach Gus Bradley is approaching the open competition at quarterback with some sincerity. Gabbert and Henne got time with the ones and twos and Scott was able to snag some reps with the twos.
There were a couple other positives, as a few players are standing out in underwear practices.
Apparently we also learned Cecil Shorts is a human being. Damnit.
