The Jacksonville Jaguars have released a statement regarding wide receiver Justin Blackmon’s four game suspension by the league for violating its substance abuse policy.
Here is what GM Dave Caldwell had to say:
"Coach Bradley and I have spoken with Justin, and he is well aware of our disappointment. I don’t think there is any question that Justin is embarrassed and remorseful, and Coach Bradley and I are both confident he understands the obligations ahead of him, to himself, the franchise and the fans. We will support him throughout the process and continue to work to educate him and all of our players on making the right decisions. The Jaguars have made a lot of progress over the past three months, and we will not allow this news to slow us down."
I certainly hope the news doesn’t slow the Jaguars down, especially since the team has had an upbeat, excited approach to the offseason this year. There is a positive energy around the Jaguars right now and it would be a shame for one of the more visible players on the team derailed everything that Caldwell and head coach Gust Bradley have been working to build thus far this season.
I’m excited to get Blackmon back on the field after his four game suspension is done, but the kid really needs to get his act together. This plus the aggravated last offseason have begun to mar his reputation. His play will have to be stellar otherwise his suspensions and negative attention may get the better of him.
