Kansas City has been a fickle team during the run up to free agency. They magically sign or tag (Brandon Albert) three potential free agents they could desperately use in year one of their new era, then they cut right tackle Eric Winston, it’s widely speculated they want to deal Albert, and now they want to ink him to a long term deal and make him their left tackle of the future.
Being the second round pick, the Jacksonville Jaguars are getting jerked around something terrible right now.
To be honest, the Jags are likely in pretty good shape no matter what the Chiefs do. The Chiefs could even take their top ranked pass rusher and the Jaguars would still have a multitude of options at pass rusher and offensive line to take with the second overall pick.
When the Chiefs announced that they had franchised Albert but then cut Winston, it seemed that Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel was in their future. Taking a gander to Arrowheadaddict.com, it seems that a lot of fans are still in the mood to draft West Virginia Geno Smith overall. With Albert set to come back, Smith could still be an option, even with the trade for Alex Smith pending. Selecting Smith overall would be the biggest blow to Jaguars draft options as it removes the most pro-ready quarterback in the draft class from their options at number two overall.
So far, I think it’s important to remember that there will still be options no matter what the Chiefs choose to do. The Jags are in ideal position in a deep draft and should be set to get whomever they want. Now there is just a little more suspense and speculation about who will be first off the board again.
