Mike Mayock: Sharrif Floyd Fits Tremendously With Gus Bradley’s D

A lot of attention is being placed on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ pass rushing woes, but when looking to the draft it is tough to ignore interior defensive linemen like Star Lotulelei and Sharrif Floyd.  With Terrance Knighton set to hit free agency and some questions about his inconsistency, the Jags could always try and upgrade.

When asked about Floyd in a recent conference call, NFL analyst Mike Mayock said that Floyd would be a tremendous fit with Gus Bradley’s defense:

"To answer the Gus Bradley question, I think he fits intremendously well. Now, I think Jacksonville has more depth at defensive tacklethan they do at defensive end, for instance. From a need perspective I think theycould use a pass rushing defensive end more than a defensive tackle."

I agree that a pass rushing player is considerably more important for the Jags at this point.  With GM Dave Caldwell set on drafting based on need, it makes sense that the team should pass on Floyd and go after someone like Bjoern Werner or Damontre Moore.  If Floyd is the top five talent that Mayock seems to think he is, then that may give the Jags some pause both in free agency – when thinking of re-signing Knighton – and in the draft.
