Blackmon, Anger on All-Rookie Team

For the Jacksonville Jaguars there is little consolation in a 2-14 season. Fortunately, following decimation after decimation at the hands of more talented team, the Jaguars know they have some up and comers on their team. The Professional Football Writers of America/Pro Football Weekly “All-Rookie” team came out this week and the Jaguars managed to get two players on there. For ex-GM Gene Smith, this could be the ultimate consolation prize to go along with his pink slip.
Justin Blackmon edged out Tennessee’s Kendall Wright to land on the All-Rookie team at wide receiver. Blackmon was tied with Wright for most catches with 64 but led all rookie receivers with 865 yards. His healthy 13.5 yards per reception average put him just ahead and earned him the honor.
Rookie punter Bryan Anger, facing little competition, also made the All-Rookie team. For a player drafted unusually high, this is a step in the right direction toward a Hall of Fame career that a third round pick better warrant. In all seriousness, Anger played really well this season. He had 91 punts with an average of 47.8 yards per punt and a long of 71. He should be improving on those numbers over the next season, so things are looking up for the Jaguars…well not if he continues to punt 90+ times a season, but you get the idea.
