….Bjoern Werner, DE, Florida State.

Werner is an interesting pick at number two in the draft.  But while I am a little hung up on picking him this early, I really don’t see it being that bad – especially if Werner has a good combine.

Werner comes from Berlin, Germany and has made American Football his plaything.  He is the ACC’s defensive player of the year and clearly outshines the competition arounds him.  Werner not only has a reputation as a good pass rusher (a major need for the Jags) but also as a run stopper.  The latter is something 2012 second round pick Andre Branch needs work on (though he has been better than expected in year one).  Werner started playing football at age 15 and since then he has learned how to play quite well.  Only having a few years of experience with the sport, he had offers from Oregon and Florida State entering college.  Choosing Florida State, Werner never looked back.  He racked up 23.5 sacks, 97 tackles, 35 tackles for a loss, and a decent 17 passes defensed.

Dane Brugler of CBS Sports says of Werner that he compares to  “Chris Long, Rams — Listed at 6-4 and 256 pounds, Werner isn’t a flashy athlete, but his play and skill-set are very reminiscent of Long, who was drafted second overall in the 2008 NFL Draft.”  If Werner produces anything close to what Long has been doing in St. Louis, then he would be well worth the pick at number two.

What do you guys think?
