Jacksonville Jaguars wide receivers were critical to the franchise’s early success and appear to be key for future growth, too. We look at the five great all-time wide receivers for the young franchise.

There are two wide receivers that every Jacksonville Jaguars receiver is compared to. While Jimmy Smith sits at the top, there are a handful of receivers who deserve further recognition.

In a current renaissance at the position for the Jaguars, it’s important to look back at some of the greats that have graced the franchise through its brief existence.

Here we look at the top five of all time. Let’s dive in.

5) Allen Hurns (2014-current)

Ranking sixth all-time among Jacksonville Jaguars wide receivers with 2185 yards, Allen Hurns slips into fifth place over Reggie Williams (2322 yards) because of his greater production per game. Hurns averages 3.6 receptions per game (sixth among Jags receivers) and his 52 yards per game are fifth. Tack on 19 touchdowns in just three seasons (fifth all-time), Hurns makes a compelling selection.

Perhaps most important in considering Hurns, he has been clutch during his time with the Jaguars. Working his way up as an undrafted free agent, Hurns has been a reliable starter opposite Allen Robinson since 2014. He can make tough grabs in traffic over the middle, on third down, or to win the game.

While Hurns could end up as the odd man out in 2017 or beyond, it is unlikely that he fades away so quickly that he doesn’t move into fifth-overall among receiving yards within the next year. It’s even more likely that Hurns makes another game-saving play in the next season. He simply comes up with big plays when needed like winning the game against the Buffalo Bills in London (pictured) or taking an 80-yard catch and run to the house.
