The Jacksonville Jaguars have a lot going for them. They have made some good selections in recent drafts, had good signings, and made good trades. As a result of that, they started to turn the corner a little bit in 2022-23.
They became division champions and even won a playoff game against a very good Los Angeles Chargers team. They were eliminated by the eventual Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs by one score so it became obvious that this team was getting close.
Now that the off-season is here, there are lots of teams trying to get better around them. The AFC is becoming a powerhouse and things are only going to get more difficult. The Jaguars can be a part of it if they are smart.
A lot of the smart decisions could come via the 2023 NFL Draft where they currently hold the 24th overall selection. This is a pick that can be used in a variety of different ways. They could either use it in a trade to get some help on their team or they can select someone that will help them grow.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have some big decisions to make on draft day.
This class is loaded with talent so for the sake of this, we are going to pretend that they use the selection to better their roster. Now, what position are they going to target?
Every team in the league has needs but almost everyone could use some more depth on the offensive line. If the Jaguars go that route, they should consider one of these three players:
1. Darnell Wright - OT - Tennessee
Darnell Wright would be great for Jacksonville's offensive line in 2023.
Darnell Wright is a very good offensive tackle coming out of Tennessee. He is 6'5.5" and 333 lbs so he is ready to go for the NFL right away.
He would likely step right in and play the position well for the Jaguars as they continue to develop their offensive line.
Darnell Wright, more than any player on this list, is the most likely to be selected by Jacksonville with the 24th overall pick. He is projected to be selected right in that sweet spot of the mid-20s.
Obviously, landing a very good offensive lineman like this can do wonders for your franchise. With the success he had in college last year, he will be wanted by a few teams. Tennessee was outstanding at times and he was a big part of it.
2. Broderick Jones - OT - Georgia
The Jaguars would love for Broderick Jones to fall to their feet in 2023.
Everyone knows how good Georgia has been lately. They win National Championships because they build an offense that can score lots of points and defenses that don't give up much.
In order to do that, you can't just dominate in the skill areas. You need the offensive and defensive lines to come through for you.
Broderick Jones is one of the examples that can come from this mindset that they have at Georgia. He is a very gifted offensive tackle that is going to start in the NFL right away.
If the Jaguars are going to land this guy, they might need to get a little bit lucky. He would have to fall to them at pick 24. If he is available at that pick, there should be no questions asked.
3. Anton Harrison - OT - Oklahoma
Anton Harrison would be a great pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
If both Wright and Jones are off the board by the time the Jaguars come up to pick and they are dead set on selecting an offensive lineman, Anton Harrison should be the guy.
He is an offensive tackle that comes from Oklahoma where he had so much success. He would bring some stability to the line as they continue to try and build around Trevor Lawrence as a quarterback.
If adding a little bit of extra time for him to process plays and make even better throws is possible, it should be of the highest priority to act on it.
The Jaguars have been very good at acting on things that they need. There are plenty of offensive weapons around for Trevor Lawrence so adding to his offensive line could be a key this off-season. If the first round of the draft is their route, these players could be of consideration.
