In 2018, the “next era” of Jacksonville Jaguars football was revealed with a completely new uniform from head to toe. This made sense following the excitement that was built in a 2017 season that fell just short of a trip to the Super Bowl (MJWD).

This is the Jags’ fifth season with the current uniforms and I thought it would be a great time to reflect on all the combinations we have seen over the years.

At the close of the 2022 season, the Jaguars could potentially welcome their fifth design overall in franchise history or they could stick with their current model, which is rather plain in comparison with their 2013-2017 counterpart.

The Jaguars currently have 9 uniform combinations. Here’s a look at them:

From the time Shad Khan bought the team in 2011, he has made it a point to make black the Jaguars’ primary color. Fans had grown to love the original teal and had been vocal about it over the years. Finally in 2021, the team reverted back to the teal jersey, which has now become the primary “home” color.

Unfortunately, as one of the “newest” teams in the league, the Jaguars have yet to establish a “throwback” uniform and hopes for the classic 1990s uniform to make a comeback seems like a pipe dream.

Also, the Jaguars have failed to create a bold alternate uniform since their highly criticized color rush jerseys in 2015. With that in mind, here are my rankings of their current uniform combinations.

Jaguars current uniform combinations: Nos. 7 to 9

UNIFORM COMBINATION No. 9

BLACK HELMET, WHITE JERSEYS, TEAL PANTS

I understand the teal pants are unique and at times it looks good, but due to the fact that these uniforms were originally designed with black being the primary color, there is not enough teal to match the pants.

The jersey is centered around the black-and-white color scheme, which makes the pants come off as distracting. I think if the sleeves were teal and the numbers had a teal border around them, this uniform would be ranked much higher for me. In the current state though, it comes off as a fumble, much like Trevor Lawrence did when they last wore these uniforms.

Let me put this out there, I love the color teal and the way it has been revitalized in the Jaguars uniforms week to week. However, the teal jerseys and teal pants are just too much for me. I know there is quite the following for the all-teal look and I get it, it stands out.

The colors are very bright and remind me of the distaste for the original Color Rush games in 2015 that eventually led to the discontinuation of those games.

Once again looking at these I think an immediate improvement would be a black stripe down the sides of the pants but I don’t think that would be enough to change my opinion.

I have always been a fan of a nice clean white-on-white uniform, but the Jags’ all-white uniforms are rather plain. It comes over more favorable than Nos. 8 and 9 on my list but where those came off as off-putting due to an overabundance of teal, these uniforms are plain.

Also, these current uniforms came out when black was the primary color. If I had to correct these jerseys, I would incorporate the teal as the number bordering as I previously mentioned along with maybe some teal stripes on the pants to give it some true Jaguar colors.

Jaguars Current Uniform Rankings: Nos. 4 to 6

UNIFORM COMBINATION No. 6

BLACK HELMET, WHITE JERSEY, BLACK PANTS

I have fewer complaints about these three jersey combinations, and to start off, the last of the white jersey combinations lands at No. 6. Overall, it’s a decent combination as the black numbers and letters play off the black pants quite well.

The biggest problem these uniforms have is once again the lack of teal. It comes off eerily similar to the New Orleans Saints away uniforms they have worn for quite some time. They aren’t jarring to look at, just too basic and too similar to other teams in the league.

It appears to be a reoccurring theme now for the all-black uniform to be the Jaguars outfit across the pond and it’s a nice look. Complaints? Maybe the lack of teal comes to mind, but by no means do they look bad.

Black was the Jaguars’ main color for nearly a decade and this was probably one of the best looks they had when black was the “home” color. I think these come off very clean and make for an excellent alternate look, but the all-black is being used by many teams now and it makes these jerseys lose a bit of the charm. Moving forward, we can think of this combination as the “London Home Uniform”.

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I find the “black jersey with white pants” combination very satisfying. The white pants play off of the white numbers on the jersey quite well and it is probably the one uniform combination that has a little bit of everything in the whole scheme.

The teal is still on the back burner in this combination but has just enough pop from the sleeves that it still feels like it’s the Jaguars. It isn’t a combination for everyone, but I have always appreciated dark tops on white bottoms in football.

Jaguars Uniform Rankings: Nos. 1 to 3

UNIFORM COMBINATION No. 3

BLACK HELMETS, TEAL JERSEY, WHITE PANTS

These uniforms are fantastic in the way that the teal is prominent and the white pants don’t overpower the jersey because teal is a lighter “dark” color.

They look great on the field and represent the Jaguars brand by displaying the fan-favorite teal jerseys at the forefront. It’s hard to make any complaints about this combination because even though black isn’t as relevant, it still exists via the helmet and accents on the jersey. I have no problem seeing these on the field any Sunday.

I’m not sure if it comes off as shocking when you take into account that my bottom two uniforms included the eye-popping teal pants, but these uniforms right here wowed me the first time I saw them. The black and teal work hand-in-hand to deliver one of the most impressive combinations the Jaguars have.

The teal pants just shine with black jerseys. They work with sleeve accents to deliver a satisfying look. I truly adore these uniforms and prior to the Jaguars wearing these, I thought I would never get on board with the teal pants, but there was one uniform combination that would be a match made in heaven.

This is probably the most upsetting thing about the black jersey not being the main color anymore as it makes this combination quite rare to see. Kudos to the design team on coming up with this option. It almost took over as my favorite, but we know why that wasn’t possible…

Was there ever any doubt that this would be the number one option? This uniform is near perfection and is the closest thing we have had to those signature 1990s Jaguars uniforms worn by franchise legends such as

Tony Boselli, Fred Taylor, Jimmy Smith

, and many more.

This jersey screams “DUUUVAL” and I wouldn’t want it any other way. From the clean black helmet with the modern logo, the TEAL home jerseys, and the black pants to finish it off, it is eye candy.

Sure the uniforms are plain in the latest era of Jaguars football, but everyone was excited to see these on the field and they did not disappoint… from a visible aspect, rather than the team’s performance. The uniforms are excellent and continue to put a smile on my face when I see them in action, there is no better look the Jaguars could have within their current uniform options.
