3 more realistic trades the Jaguars should consider making before deadline
No. 1 trade the Jaguars should make: Jerry Jeudy, WR
Despite the fact that the Jags bolstered their wide receiver corps with the signings of Zay Jones and Christian Kirk earlier this year, the group could still use a boost. TCU’s Quentin Johnston would be a great addition in the 2023 NFL draft, but if general manager Trent Baalke doesn’t want to wait, he could make a few calls before the trade deadline.
The Carolina Panthers have made it clear that they won’t deal D.J. Moore regardless of the offer. One receiver John Shipley of Sports Illustrated suggests is Chase Claypool and he would certainly be a solid addition to the Jaguars’ offense but the Pittsburgh Steelers might be reluctant to part ways with him. Another option would be Brandin Cooks but a) he’s not getting any younger and b) the Houston Texans aren’t going to trade him to a division foe.
That leaves Jerry Jeudy as a realistic trade target. The Alabama product had a solid rookie campaign, hauling in 52 receptions for 856 yards with three touchdowns. However, he had a sophomore slump and only caught 38 passes for 467 yards last season, which is not the kind of output you want to form a former first-round pick.
This season, Jeudy has tallied 24 catches for 386 yards with two touchdowns but that’s mostly because Tim Patrick tore his ACL before the start of the season and if he were healthy, he would likely have a bigger role than Jeudy.
Now, it’s hard to tell if Jeudy is part of the Broncos’ long-term future but the Jaguars could certainly use him, especially when you take into account that Marvin Jones Jr. will be a free agent next offseason and that wide receiver isn’t the only need they must address next year.
The Jaguars will face off against the Broncos Sunday, just two days before the deadline, so it might be a good idea to give Jeudy a look, in case they decide to inquire about him.
