Should anyone be surprised the Jacksonville Jaguars sit at the top of the AFC South following their dominant win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2? That’s an honest question and the answer isn’t a simple yes or no.

Looking back, there were a few reasons to be skeptical of the Jags ahead of the 2022 season. After all, they’ve won a combined 16 games over the last four seasons and it’s been a while since they’ve been truly competitive. Moreover, there was no guarantee the additions the team’s brass made in the offseason would pan out.

However, the Jags came close to beating the Washington Commanders in the season opener and they dominated the Colts for four quarters. While they’re a 7-point underdog ahead of Week 3, they may have a realistic shot at beating the Los Angeles Charges due to the outstanding play of these five players.

No. 5 Jaguars player whose stock is up entering Week 3: Shaquill Griffin

The Jags gave up four touchdowns against the Commanders in Week 1 and cornerback Shaquill Griffin allowed two of them. That statline doesn’t look good on paper but the truth is that the former UCF Knight held his own for most of the game and finished the game with one pass defensed and a solid Pro Football Focus overall grade of 68.6.

Griffin was even better against the Colts, allowing three of six targets for 22 yards. He also logged another pass deflection and posted an even better PPF of 77.7. You won’t probably hear his name often due to the additions the Jaguars made on defense earlier this year. However, he’s still the reliable corner he was during the short Urban Meyer era.
