Best contract on the Jaguars roster: Marvin Jones, WR

Contract: 2-year, $12.5 million 2022 cap number: $8.7 million

You could call this a Marvin Jones Jr. appreciation post. After all, you have probably heard (or read) throughout the offseason how underrated and undervalued the former California Golden Bear is but the truth is that he’s one of the Jaguars’ most important players and one of their ‘cheapest’ ones ahead of the 2022 season.

Jones has been productive throughout his NFL career, regardless of what uniform he’s wearing. From 2017 to 2020, he reached the end zone 32 times, making him a bargain at $12.5 million for two years. However, the team went through a tough period under Urban Meyer, and like most players on their roster last season, the veteran wideout wasn’t put in a position to succeed.

Having said that, Jones was one of the Jags’ most valuable players last year in spite of Meyer, hauling in 73 receptions for 832 yards with four touchdowns. While Christian Kirk and Zay Jones will take some targets away from him, he should still play an important role in Jacksonville’s defense. As a matter of fact, it’s possible that he will post similar numbers because opposing defenses will now have to account for Kirk and Jones.

Jones is set to become a free agent after the season but he’s the kind of veteran presence you want on your team. If he has another solid season for the Jaguars, they should strongly consider giving him a contract extension.
