No. 5 free agent the Jaguars should avoid in 2022 – Jamison Crowder, WR.

The wide-receiver market in free agency isn’t going to be particularly deep this year. Michael Gallop, Odell Beckham Jr., and Chis Godwin all suffered serious injuries and may not be available by the start of the 2022 season, so they may not get the same kind of deal they would have gotten had they been healthy.

Don’t be surprised if the three of them sign a one-year deal to try to rehabilitate their stock and hit the market once again next offseason. Having said that, there are still going to be several options available but the Jaguars need to sort them out and identify which ones to avoid. Jamison Crowder should be one of them.

A fourth-round selection by the Washington Commanders in 2015, Crowder joined the New York Jets in 2019 and was pretty productive over his first two seasons, catching 137 passes for 1,532 yards and 12 touchdowns. However, his production suffered a dip in 2021, hauling in just 51 receptions for 447 yards and two trips to the endzone. You could make the case his average of 8.8 yards per catch was the byproduct of playing with rookie quarterback Zach Wilson but he hasn’t been known as a burner through his NFL career, so this should be a cause for concern.

If the Jaguars want to sign a wide receiver in free agency, they’re better off setting a reunion with Allen Robinson or targeting Mike Williams of the Los Angeles Chargers. Both will be more expensive than Crowder but the two of them are more talented.
