Jaguars can sign these 5 FAs with ties to HC Doug Pederson
No. 5 free agent with ties to Jaguars HC Doug Pederson – Zach Ertz.
Zach Ertz’s last season in Philadelphia (2020) was an unceremonious one. He was entering the fourth year of a five-year contract worth $42.5 million but thought he was underpaid and wanted a raise. The Eagles didn’t cave in and traded him to the Arizona Cardinals during the 2021 regular season.
While Ertz was one of the top tight ends in the NFL during his prime, he mustered 36 catches for a career-low 335 yards and just one touchdown. After a relatively slow start in 2021, it was fair to wonder how much gas he had left in the tank. However, he benefited from a chance of scenery in the desert and went on to haul in 56 receptions for 574 yards with three touchdowns.
From 2015 to 2019, Ertz caught 74 or more passes and averaged 10.5 yards per grab. There’s a chance he could put similar numbers in 2021 if he manages to stay healthy. The 2013 second-round pick proved last season that he still has plenty of football left on him and the prospect of joining a young quarterback in Trevor Lawrence and his former head coach in Doug Pederson could lure him to Jacksonville this offseason.
Spotrac projects that Ertz will sign a two-year, $15.2 million deal this offseason. That’s an amount the Jags can easily afford.
