No. 1 Raiders free agent the Jaguars can sign – Casey Hayward, CB.

The Jaguars have a pair of starting cornerbacks in Shaquill Griffin and Tyson Campbell but it wouldn’t hurt them to add depth to the position. After all, Tre Herndon and Nevin Lawson are set to become free agents. While it makes sense to use a middle-round pick in a developmental prospect, the front office could also use a vested veteran such as Casey Hayward.

After being released by the Los Angeles Chargers last offseason, he joined Las Vegas and his former defensive coordinator, Gus Bradley, on a one-year deal. The veteran corner went on to start every game in 2021 and played 94 percent of the defensive snaps. He allowed a respectable 57.1 percent completion rate and three touchdowns. He also posted a healthy Pro Football Focus grade of 72.8 and popped up at No. 26 in their top 100 list of free agents in 2022.

While Hayward’s best years are behind him, he proved in Las Vegas that he still has plenty of gas left in the tank and could quickly step up in the starting lineup in case Griffin or Campbell miss time with injuries.

It remains to be seen if Hayward would like to join the Jaguars as a backup since other teams may offer him a starting role. Also, he’s projected to get a one-year deal worth $6.5 million and that might exceed the Jaguars’ spending budget this offseason. Still, he would be a great addition to the Black and Teal.
