No. 3 Vikings free agent the Jaguars can sign -Tyler Conklin, TE.

Here’s another position on offense the Jaguars can’t afford to neglect this offseason. Colorado State’s Trey McBride would give Trevor Lawrence another weapon on offense. But if the front office isn’t interested in investing an early-draft pick in their tight end room and thinks that Dalton Schultz will exceed their spending budget, they should consider targeting Tyler Conklin.

A fifth-round pick by the Vikes in 2018, Conklin was a role player throughout his first three seasons in the NFL, and never did he play more than 41 percent of the offensive snaps in that span. However, it all changed in 2021, when he appeared in all 17 games with 15 starts and went on to haul in 61 receptions for 593 yards with three touchdowns. Even though those aren’t earth-shattering numbers, they’re more than any of the Jaguars’ tight ends registered last year.

Dan Arnold played well once he joined the Jaguars but he suffered an MCL injury towards the end of the season. While he deserves a shot to be the team’s number one tight end, the front office needs to bring in some competition to the position, and signing Conklin would be an underrated move. He’s not overly athletic but could become a reliable target in the Jaguars’ passing game.
