No. 2 Vikings free agent the Jaguars can sign – Mason Cole, OL.

The Jaguars need to give Trevor Lawrence as many weapons as possible this offseason but they also need to revamp their offensive line. Left tackle Cam Robinson is set to become a free agent and right tackle Jawaan Taylor has underperformed, so the Jags may prioritize addressing those positions but they shouldn’t neglect the interior of the unit.

Offensive guards Andrew Norwell, A.J. Cann, and reserve Tyler Shatley are all scheduled to hit the open market. Re-signing Norwell and Shatley makes sense and Ben Bartch has started games over the last two years, so there could be some carryover from last season to the next. But if the team’s brass office wants to add depth to the offensive line, targeting Mason Cole in free agency makes sense.

Cole was a third-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2018 NFL Draft but was traded to the Vikings last offseason. He appeared in 46 games with 32 starts during his three-year stint in the desert and made seven starts for the Vikings in 2021. Keep in mind that the former Michigan Wolverine can play all positions in the interior and could compete with Bartch for the right guard spot in case Cann isn’t brought back. Also, he could become the Jaguars’ primary backup in the interior if they aren’t able to retain Shatley.

Signing Cole wouldn’t be a franchise-altering move but not every deal the Jaguars will make this offseason can be of the blockbuster variety. Nevertheless, he could turn out to be a low-key, solid acquisition in free agency.
