The Jacksonville Jaguars’ head coaching search might have hit a speedbump in recent days but their front office might be getting reinforcements in the upcoming days.

While it’s unlikely that the Jacksonville Jaguars will give general manager Trent Baalke his walking papers, there’s a chance former Minnesota Vikings general manager Rick Spielman will join their front office. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported that Spielman interviewed for a high-profile job in the Jags’ front office and fellow coworker Mike Garafolo later added that his understanding is it wouldn’t be for the general manager position.

Cutting ties with Baalke would be the best course of action and the Jaguars may very well do so after the 2022 NFL Draft. After all, his presence might be holding up the organization’s head coaching search. However, Spielman could help speed up the process and bring in some balance and credibility to Jacksonville whether Baalke is gone or not. Keep in mind that he had a superb track record of acquiring players throughout his 16-year tenure as an executive for the Vikings, first as their vice president of player personnel and later as the general manager.

Tight end Kyle Rudolph, safety Harrison Smith, defensive end Danielle Hunter are some of Spielman’s draft picks that went on to earn Pro Bowl designations. More recently, the Vikes selected Justin Jefferson, one of the most dynamic wide receivers in the league right now. The Jaguars could definitely use someone with his expertise and while Jefferson wouldn’t be able to follow him to Duval, these four free agents could.
