No. 2 Texan that can follow Bill O’Brien to Jaguars – Maliek Collins.

Let’s get this out of the way. Most of the Texans’ pending free agents are complementary players. Bill O’Brien did a poor job of replenishing the roster and left the team’s cap in bad shape, which forced general manager Nick Caserio to for short-term solutions and scrape the bottom of the barrel for bargain signings in 2021. You could even make the case the Jaguars have more talent ahead of free agency.

Having said that, there are several Texans’ players that could help the Jaguars in 2022. In particular, defensive tackle Maliek Collins could be a solid addition to their defensive line rotation if they don’t re-sign Taven Bryan and Adam Gotsis, both of whom are set to hit the open market.

After having a down season with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020, Collins landed in Houston last year and bounced back. He made 15 starts in 2021 and logged nine tackles for a loss, three sacks, 31 pressures. One year before signing with the Raiders, the defensive tackle registered four sacks as a member of the Dallas Cowboys.

One thing to consider when pursuing Collins in free agency is the Jaguars’ coaching staff. Whoever ends up becoming their next head coach will probably want to bring his own staff and may not retain defensive coordinator Joe Cullen. It’s uncertain if the defensive tackle would fit whatever scheme Jacksonville ends up running.
