No. 4 gift the Jaguars would love to get – A good head coach.

Shad Khan’s track record of hiring head coaching since buying the Jaguars isn’t great and he is once again set to hire another one in the upcoming weeks. While Doug Marrone had his moments (mainly the 2017 season), he won a measly 12 games in his last three seasons at the helm. His predecessor, Gus Bradley wasn’t much better and couldn’t get the team over the hump during his four-year tenure. However, the worst of the bunch was Urban Meyer.

Meyer was one of the most winningest head coaches in college history but his success didn’t carry over in the NFL and was given the boot after just 13 games. He struggled to find success on the field, and he didn’t fare much better off it. He allegedly belittled his coaching staff, didn’t know who he was playing against, and didn’t often know what was going on at any given time. Those are just some of the many mistakes he made throughout his short stint in Jacksonville.

Sure, Mike Malarkey also lasted one season too, but he didn’t set the team behind the way Meyer did in just a few months. Moving forward, Khan must make sure the Jaguars’ next head coach avoid making the same mistakes as his predecessors. The Jags will have their fair share of candidates to choose from in the next hiring cycle and must take their time to sort all of them out. If they find the right one, it won’t matter that dropped the ball badly when they hired Meyer.
