5 Christmas gifts Jaguars would love to get for next year
No. 3 gift the Jaguars would love to get – Weapons on offense.
As important as having the right coaching staff in place will be, the Jaguars also need to make upgrades to their roster. This past offseason, the Jags made several upgrades to all position groups on defense. However, they didn’t make many impact additions to the other side of the ball.
The Jags kept their offensive line intact and besides tight end Chris Manhertz and wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr., they refrain from signing skill-position players in free agency. They did use the 25th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft on running back Travis Etienne but he got hurt in the preseason and was out for the year. Also, the coaching staff gave return specialist Jamal Agnew playing time at wide receiver but they will need more weapons in 2022 if they want to score.
Bringing back DJ Chark Jr. would be a good idea. The 2018 second-round pick was the Jaguars’ only deep threat and once he suffered an ankle fracture, the team’s offensive suffered a significant drop in production. The front office also needs to sign a true number one tight end. Mike Gesiki would be an enticing option in free agency.
Also, there will be several wide receivers in both free agency and early in the draft that would give the Jaguars’ offense a boost. If they want Trevor Lawrence to have a breakout in Year 2, they need to put him in a position to succeed. Giving him weapons would be a good step.
