No. 2 gift the Jaguars would love – A plan to develop Trevor Lawrence.

There weren’t many bright moments for the Jaguars this year but one of them was the selection of Trevor Lawrence. After finishing 1-15 in 2020, they earned the first overall pick in this year’s draft. From the moment they clinch the selection, there was a 99 percent chance they would take the former Clemson Tiger, as he was one of the most talented quarterback prospects in recent years.

Lawrence’s season hasn’t surely gone the way the Jags envision. Statistically speaking, he’s one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL. He hasn’t had more than one touchdown in a game since Week 1 and has thrown just one in the last seven games. If he were any other signal-caller he might have been benched by now but the team knows that their offensive woes go beyond their young passer.

After all, Lawrence has shown flashes of the talent that made him one of the best quarterbacks at the collegiate level these past years. He makes a few jaw-dropping throws on a weekly basis and has shown he’s the right man to lead the Jaguars for years to come.

Looking back, the coaching staff didn’t really have a plan to develop Lawrence in his rookie season. While former head coach Urban Meyer wanted to run a simplified offense like the ones he used in college, his assistants wanted to use something that actually worked in the pros. In the end, this was counterproductive for the team’s franchise quarterback. If the Jaguars want to untap Lawrence’s potential, they will need to have the right plan in place, and a coaching staff that will push him to be the best version of himself that he can be.
