No. 5 HC the Jaguars could have hired in 2020 – Nick Sirianni.

Here’s another head coach that didn’t get much consideration for this past hiring cycle. Nick Sirianni was a relatively obscure name before 2021. He was the Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2020 but he wasn’t really among the top candidates to land a head coaching job. Enter the Philadelphia Eagles, who had just fired Doug Pederson after disagreeing with his coaching staff choices.

Philly interviewed Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll for their head coach opening but he wasn’t interested and declined the opportunity. Sirianni gladly took it and has done a good job in his first year at the helm. Although he’s experienced a learning curve on the job, the Eagles have a 7-7 record and could make the 2021 playoffs as a wild card team.

Sirianni has worked with what he’s had and has put Eagles Jalen Hurts in a position to succeed even though the team may not be fully sold on him as their quarterback of the future. Moreover, Gardner Minshew had an outstanding outing when he started, proving he wasn’t the reason why the Jaguars won a combined seven games the previous two years.

In his first year in Philadelphia, Sirianni has avoided controversy, and there are no signs he’s clashed with his coaching staff or lost the locker room. His biggest “scandal” came when he said he had to keep watering the Eagles’ flower. As corny as he may be, it doesn’t come close to everything that Meyer did during his short stint in Jacksonville, including being caught dancing improperly with a woman that wasn’t his wife.
