1. Jaguars potential OC candidate in 2022 – John Morton

The Jaguars need to get someone that can get most of their wide receiver corps and John Morton is an enticing option. He’s been serving as a senior offensive assistant for the Las Vegas Raiders since 2019 and surely played a role in Hunter Renfrow’s and Darrell Waller’s development. Henry Ruggs III was also looking like an ascending star before he caused an accident that ended the life of a woman and her dog in early November.

Morton has also spent time as the wide receiver coach for the New York Jets and the New Orleans Saints. He’s been responsible for turning Robbie Anderson, now with the Carolina Panthers, into one of the best receivers in the NFL. He also mentored Brandin Cooks, and Willie Snead during his stint in The Big Easy.

DJ Chark Jr. is slated to become a free agent next year but if the Jags bring him back, they will need someone who can help him perform at a Pro Bowl level once gain. Also, Laviska Shenault Jr. needs someone who can push the right buttons and help him reach his ceiling. The Raiders will most likely clean house after firing Jon Gruden in the middle of the 2021 season and Morton might be available.

Earlier this year, Morton applied for the Detriot Lions’ offensive coordinator opening but didn’t get the job. He may want to give it another crack in 2022 and if that’s the case, it wouldn’t hurt the Jaguars to perform due diligence.
