2. Sidney Jones – Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback

Back in 2017, Sidney Jones tore his Achilles. This was particularly frustrating because it happened not long before that year’s draft. Had he not gotten injured, he might not have slid to the second round, where the Philadelphia Eagles took him. At the time, it looked like Philly got a steal. However, the Washington product dealt with injuries during his tenure in the ‘City of Brotherly Love’ and was a non-factor when he was healthy.

The Eagles gave up on Jones after three years and released him last offseason. The Jaguars then signed him to a one-year contract and the former Husky quickly established himself as a key cog in Jacksonville’s secondary. The cornerback was enjoying a career revival before another torn Achilles cut his season short. In nine games, he logged six starts and posted 26 total tackles, one forced fumble, nine passes defensed, and two interceptions.

In the end, the Jaguars’ new regime liked what Jones did last year and re-signed him this offseason. Nevertheless, it’s fair to wonder if the torn Achilles robbed the cornerback of any of his speed. Keep in mind that he has never played a full season and it’s possible that injuries have taken a toll.

Jones is just 25 but it feels like he’s been around forever. Last season, he jumped into the starting lineup because the team had no one else to turn to but the Jags revamped their cornerback room this offseason. Will Jones see meaningful playing time in 2021?
