The toughest WR on the Jacksonville Jaguars schedule: Stefon Diggs

The 2018 draft class was loaded at the quarterback position. Baker Mayfield went first overall, and four other quarterbacks were selected in the first round, including 2019 MVP Lamar Jackson. Josh Allen, who went seventh overall to the Buffalo Bills, had pretty good physical tools but had spotty accuracy.

The Bills believed they had a franchise quarterback in Allen despite the fact struggled with accuracy in the first two years of this NFL career. Their trust was eventually rewarded and the Wyoming product had a breakout season in 2020, completing 69.2 percent of his passes for 4,544 yards with 37 touchdowns and just ten interceptions. While Allen deserves recognition for his growth, having wide receiver Stefon Diggs helped significantly.

Diggs first got notoriety thanks to the Minneapolis Miracle. However, the 2015 fifth-round pick quickly showed he wasn’t a one-hit-wonder and went on to post three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. Although Diggs started his career with the Minnesota Vikings, he was dealt to Buffalo last offseason. The Bills gave up a first-round selection, and three late-round picks. At the time, the cost of acquiring the wide receiver seemed excessive but now it looks like a bargain. The fact the Vikes drafted Justin Jefferson last year lessened Diggs absence but imagine how lethal their passing game would be if they had both Diggs and Jefferson.

Diggs was key in helping Allen earn his first Pro Bowl nod. The Maryland product became a reliable target and finished the 2020 season with seven 100-yard games. The quarterback-receiver duo should be even better in 2021, which could spell trouble for the Jaguars in Week 9.
