The New York Giants will be able to keep defensive lineman Leonard Williams off the market after slapping the franchise tag on him. However, the ‘G-Men’ will have a harder time keeping defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson from hitting the open market. In fact, he will be one of the most coveted free agents this offseason.

The number of impact defensive tackles in free agency will be limited this offseason. Ndamukong Suh isn’t the player he was in his prime while Sheldon Rankins has been dealing with injuries in recent years. The Jaguars should still take a look at both of them, but if they want to sign the best defensive tackle in the open market, Tomlinson should be at the top of their list.

A second-round selection in 2017, the Alabama standout posted a 75.1 Pro Football Focus grade and logged 49 total tackles (eight for a loss), and 3.5 sacks. Although he’s only registered eight sacks in his four-year career, he is the kind of player the Jaguars could add in free agency to bolster their defensive line.

PFF predicts Tomlinson will get a four-year $52 million contract while Spotract projects it will be a four-year deal worth $45.87 million. The Jags can easily afford to give him a top-market deal and should be able to outbid other teams for his services if they believe he can solidify their defensive front.
