Teams cite the distraction surrounding Hard Knocks as the main reason why they don’t feel comfortable appearing on the show and they are right to a certain extent. The presence of a camera crew and producers could indeed be distracting and even invasive.

After all, most teams that host the HBO series hardly make the playoffs the same year. Nevertheless, correlation doesn’t imply causation and these teams would’ve probably missed the postseason with or without Hard Knocks. Would you imagine Urban Meyer explaining that they couldn’t win many games because they appeared on a TV show?

Winners thrive in adversity while teams or individuals that aren’t fit falter, and this could be a good opportunity for the Jaguars to start building character. Imagine if they qualify to the playoffs in spite of being featured on Hard Knocks, they could even credit it as a reason why they were are to quickly turn things around after finishing 1-15 in 2020.
