Jacksonville Jaguars zeroing in on Raheem Morris for DC job
Raheem Morris can help fix the Jacksonville Jaguars’ defense.
It’s true that Raheem Morris’ 4-7 record in 2020 is nothing to brag about. However, the Jaguars have liked him even before Urban Meyer showed interest in him. He was an early candidate for Jacksonville’s head coaching job and even though he didn’t get the job, the team’s brass must’ve thought highly of him to consider him for their defensive coordinator position.
If Morris ends up getting the job. He will have his work cut short. He will need to fix a back seven that allowed 34 touchdowns this past season. Moreover, he will have to find a way to stop opposing offenses from running over the Jaguars’ defense and gave up 140 points in the last four games of the 2020 season.
Morris will also need to resurrect a subpar pass-rush that had a hard time getting to opposing quarterbacks and couldn’t generate enough pressure upfront. The ‘Jags’ will give the roster a makeover and bring in players via free agency and the draft. Nevertheless, Morris will have to also get the most out of players such as cornerback C.J. Henderson, defensive end K’Lavon Chaisson and defensive tackles DaVon Hamilton and Doug Costin.
Meyer believes Morris could take on a defense that needs plenty of work. The interview should help both parties touch base and help them lay a vision for the team. It’s not a done deal, but the fact the Jaguars are willing to fly Morris to Jacksonville shows how much they’re interested in his services.
