Jacksonville Jaguars must address these 4 position groups in 2021
3. The Jacksonville Jaguars defensive line is an area of concern.
The Jaguars’ defensive line is in serious need of upgrades. Rookie defensive tackles DaVon Hamilton and Doug Costin are showing promise and sophomore Josh Allen is getting healthier, but that is not enough. The team needs to add an edge defender that can take over games. K’Lavon Chaison, the Jaguars second first-round selection in 2020, was supposed to be that player, but he has struggled and it’s uncertain if he’s going to become dominant.
This Jacksonville team parted ways with defensive ends Calais Campbell and Yannick Ngakoue in the offseason but failed to find their replacements. They are currently paying the price as they rank dead last in the NFL in sacks with eight.
4. The Jacksonville Jaguars need to find their franchise quarterback.
Rookie Jake Luton showed potential in his first NFL start, but the same was said about Gardner Minshew II last year and he’s currently out with a thumb injury and in danger of not getting his job back. This could be a tricky situation for the Jaguars.
If Luton plays competently in 2020, the team’s brass could refrain from addressing the position in the 2021 draft. The problem in doing so is that they would pass up the opportunity to draft a quarterback with more upside than the Oregon State standout in the players’ selection process.
The Jaguars need to be careful with this one because making the wrong choice could set the franchise back a few years. If their quarterback of the future is available on draft night, they need to be decisive and take care of the quarterback position for good.
