2. Rookie Jake Luton could end up giving the Jacksonville Jaguars a spark.

It’s true that Mike Glennon provides a veteran presence in the Jaguars quarterback room, but he’s already reached his ceiling hasn’t shown he can be a competent signal-caller. If Doug Morrone meant it when he said he was going to look at some things and challenge his players, maybe he should give a shot to rookie Jake Luton

Talking to the media, Doug Marrone said that he’s done ‘crazy stuff in the past’, and not seeing what the team has on the Oregon State product would be indeed crazy. The Jaguars have already lost six straight games and it’s doubtful Glennon can turn things around, so it makes sense to try a different approach and give the starting nod to Luton if Garned Minshew isn’t ready to go.

In his collegiate career, Luton completed 496 of 797 passes for 5,630, 43 touchdown passes, and 15 interceptions. While his arm strength is only average and needed to work on his lower-body mechanics, his arm mechanics are solid. The Jaguars thought enough of him that they made him a sixth-round in the most recent players’ selection process.

Back in training camp, Marrone was impressed with Luton and believed the first-year signal-caller was doing a good job for a young player. Offensive coordinator Jay Gruden and Minshew himself also praised Luton. If all of them were telling the truth about him, the Jaguars need to get Luton ready for the team’s Week 9 matchup against the Texans.
