Jacksonville Jaguars: 3 overlooked players for the 2020 season
By David Levin
Chris Thompson
The impact Chris Thompson could have on the Jacksonville Jaguars running game may be subtle at first, but the change-of-pace running back will affect the offense.
The former Washington Redskins star who knows Gruden’s style of offense and will become a solid pass-catcher out of the Jaguars backfield will lighten the load on starter Leonard Fournette. He could ultimately become a third-down fixture on offense.
Thompson figures to be a major part of the offensive game plan, as Gruden explained when he met with the media for the first time this past month via Zoom.
"“I’d like to move some other receivers around a little bit, Chris [Conley] and DJ [Chark Jr] and see what happens. Then we got Chris Thompson for some backfield stuff, but seeing Ryquell [Armstead] and obviously Leonard [Fournette] do some stuff in the backfield and just get to know everybody …,” Gruden added."
Look for Gruden to use Thompson potentially some of the same ways the Jacksonville Jaguars used Corey Grant all over the field.
