Trading Calais Campbell

I know the price tag was a little high for Calais Campbell. A player who more than likely would have only played two downs per series for the Jaguars. But because of the changing culture of the locker room and the franchise, keeping Campbell on board for his leadership on the field and in the locker room may have been the biggest mistake the team made this off-season.

Jaguars sent Campbell to Baltimore for a fifth-round draft pick. It gives the veteran a chance to try and win a Super Bowl as he comes to the end of his career. The coaching staff is now tasked with trying to find someone to fill that leadership role.

Losing Campbell also has an effect on how teams will plan their defense around Yannick Ngakoue and Josh Allen this season. While it may look like the difference is better on paper this coming season, with younger and faster players, having a veteran who balances the starting lineup is hard to find. This could prove to be a real detriment to the season.
