Here Come the Defensive Tackles

I found it interesting that Caldwell said the Jaguars are releasing defensive tackle Marcell Dareus, but the team would be open to bringing him back if possible. If that were the case, then why wasn’t his contract renegotiated?

Dareus proved his worth to this team when he was injured and the run defense fell apart. We know it’s a good bet Jacksonville will draft a defensive tackle in the first round of April’s draft if one is available, but that does not mean the team won’t bring in one or two via free agency.

I think the process starts with Javon Hargrave of Pittsburgh, but it might not stop there. There could be a few players brought in on low-budget deals to help the front of the defense. That would certainly bring a smile to defensive coordinator Todd Wash’s face.

There are other players out there who might also get consideration. Sheldon Day, who was a former Jaguars draft pick, could be brought back. I also like Andrew Billings of Cincinnati.

Basically, if the Jaguars can bring in bodies that make the middle of the defense better, it should be done.
